Our training materials can be used to introduce a broad range of audiences and backgrounds to important concepts related to gender and health. Each training course focuses on one of five themes that complement the CORE Gender 101 agenda: Gender Integration, HIV + Sexuality, Safe Motherhood, Gender-Based Violence, and Constructive Male Engagement. The courses are designed to meet the geographic and technical needs of cooperating agencies, USAID Missions, and specific projects. Materials range from basics such as using a shared gender vocabulary and programmatic guidance, to user guides on how to conduct a gender analysis, to exercises for gender trainings. The trainings are geared to be used by anyone and with any audience, even those learning about gender for the first time!
Our popular Gender Integration Continuum framework is an important tool to assess how programs do (or do not) address gender and move them toward more gender-transformative actions. An updated User’s Guide for facilitating training on use of the continuum is available, along with other materials.
This study highlights failures to factor in gender in COVID-19 education responses and widening gaps in access to quality education following school closures. The study shows that despite governments’ and partners’ swift responses to school closures, remote learning strategies in most countries failed to account for gender-based considerations and barriers that children face at home.
Women’s empowerment is linked to positive reproductive health outcomes among adults but is understudied among youth. This study develops and analyzes a new youth empowerment scale, exploring the relationship between empowerment in women ages 15–29 and outcomes on the ideal number of children and intention to use family planning. These interactive maps display the prevalence of CEFM and FGM/C in countries where these harmful practices occur. Stakeholders can use these maps to identify locations with high rates of CEFM and FGM/C—particularly “hot spots” at the national and subnational levels. This information, along with a context analysis, can help inform the implementation of programming to help reduce these harmful practices.
This report discusses the proven and promising interventions from past experiences mitigating mental health impacts that can be applied to today’s COVID-19 crisis—especially for the most vulnerable children and adolescents. These include social protection, caregiver skills and support, community and social support, life skills and school-based programs, and specialized care.
This policy brief provides a series of recommendations for improving national data on violence against children and adolescents and using data and evidence to strengthen national-level violence prevention efforts. The findings and recommendations are based on the results of a global meta-analysis of factors associated with physical, sexual, and emotional violence against children in low- and middle-income countries.
This resource aims to inform organizations managing Safe Spaces in the development of gender transformative approaches that not only address the immediate needs of women and girls, but whose impact also extends to shift the preconceptions, stereotypes, and norms that inhibit the evolution of gender dynamics, particularly in communities with deeply ingrained patriarchal attitudes.
