This workshop guide, written in Spanish, is the third of three manuals designed to help facilitators conduct workshops on the central concepts of masculinity in Central America. The manuals build on experiences from several countries and the Instituto Costarricense de Masculinidad, Pareja y Sexualidad (Instituto WEM). This guide provides exercises and discussion questions about the concept of “hegemonic masculinity” and the ways that this influences men’s psychology and their relationships with others, focusing in particular on the issue of intimate partner violence against women. It analyzes the disadvantages of being “macho” both for the men themselves and for their female partners, and offers guidelines for moving towards nonviolent, gender equitable relationships.
