This manual offers practical guidance and tools to managers and providers of HIV/AIDS health programs so they can respond to the gender-related needs of their clients. It focuses on four areas of HIV/AIDS health services: HIV testing and counseling; prevention of mother-to-child transmission; treatment and care; and home-based care. The guide identifies issues and practical actions to address each area. Recommended actions are based on research evidence and best practices in the field. The manual also includes a manager’s checklist for assessing a gender-responsive program and a health provider’s checklist for assessing gender-responsive service delivery.
