This website provides a collection of eight scales or numerical scores that aggregate multiple indicators on facets of gender, such as gender beliefs, gender relations and household decision-making. The scales are useful as there is not one standard for measuring gender norms, gender attitudes, women’s empowerment, and other aspects of gender and because gender operates in multiple spheres.
The scales included in the compendium are listed below. For each, information is provided on the purpose, types of behavior or outcomes predicted, the number and types of items that the scale includes, the country or countries where tested or applied, lessons learned and other information.
