This document presents evidence for the positive effect of gender integration on gender and reproductive health (RH) outcomes. The authors review 40 evaluated RH projects that had gender accommodating or gender transformative program strategies. The projects address five areas of RH health: 1) reducing unintended pregnancies; 2) maternal health; 3) genital cutting and other harmful practices; 4) HIV/AIDS and other STIs; and 5) youth. The authors summarize the projects’ objectives and findings, and present case studies of projects that use gender-transformative strategies. The document is intended for program staff, donors, policymakers and advocates.
