The IGWG organizes regular in-person and virtual events where members from around the world can learn from and connect with each other. These events may be thematic, such as a focus on recent research in the GBV field, or dedicated to capacity strengthening, such as integrating participatory and inclusive evaluation and learning methods in gender transformative global health programming. Our annual IGWG Plenary creates space for members to meet in person and provide feedback on the network as a whole each year.

This fascinating brown bag, held on April 24, featured well-known GBV expert, Dr. Mary Ellsberg, who shared a video on the SASA program and a look at the preliminary results from the monitoring and evaluation of SASA.
On May 5, 2014, Dr. Nancy Glass, Associate Director of Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health, shared findings from an evaluation of a livestock microfinance program in DRC, including data on reproductive health outcomes.
On June 24, 2014, Rose Wilcher, Michele Lanham, and Robyn Dayton of FHI 360 shared the findings and programmatic resources from activities undertaken in Kenya and South Africa designed to identify strategies and generate support for gender transformative microbicide introduction in the future.
The 2014 IGWG Plenary featured presentations from Kate Gilles, of PRB; Mary Ellen Stanton, Senior Maternal Health Advisor at USAID; Shelah Bloom, UNC/Measure Evaluation Senior Gender Advisor; and Kristen Wares, USAID Strategic Information Advisor.
Panelists described the current evidence around the effectiveness of screening for intimate partner violence in health care settings, outlined new guidelines around screening from the World Health Organization, and shared results from a pilot project in Kenya, at an IGWG to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in 2014.
Dr. Anita Raj of the Center for Gender Equity and Health at the University of California, San Diego spoke to the IGWG about her ongoing research on gender-based violence in India.
